A shots fired call came in to Minden Police Department at 3:30pm Tuesday (10/26/21) at the intersection of Carolina Street and Jackson Street. Police and witnesses say the shooting was between multiple vehicles, blasting their high-powered rifles with no regard for those around them.
Witnesses say children were nearby, playing in the area of the intersection. An area resident had bullets pierce through their walls and in to their refrigerator. One of the vehicles involved in the shooting was later found filled with bullet-holes on Elm Street in Minden.
The Minden Police Association had this to say:
"The area where this shooting occurred was near a heavily populated area as well as two schools. The perpetrators had an obvious disregard for human life.
Limited details are being provided as this is an ongoing investigation."
The recent spike in gun violence in Minden has put a strain on the already short-staffed Minden Police Department. Back in July of this year a three year old was killed as an innocent bystander in a drive-by. In August a block-party that followed a memorial for the three year old was disrupted by over 50 gunshots. Minden Police are doing all they can to combat the up-tick in crime with their dwindling numbers, and are asking for the public's help with any information on violent crime in the city.
