It's that time of the year. Flu season is rapidly approaching.  Now that the plandemic is finally fading in our rear-view mirror, we can now expect cases of the actual flu to be back.  Because it seemed that for the past two and a half years everything was COVID.  Someone dies in a car crash, it was classified as a COVID death... but that's an entirely different article. Today, we're talking about the flu shot.

We Got Ours!

Friday, a doctor and nurse came to KEEL News to give Erin and me our flu shot.  We said 'flu vaccine' on the air and received messages telling us 'it's not a vaccine.'  So I had to look that up... and according to the CDC:

Influenza (flu) vaccines (often called “flu shots”) are vaccines that protect against the four influenza viruses that research indicates will be most common during the upcoming season. Most flu vaccines are “flu shots” given with a needle, usually in the arm, but there also is a nasal spray flu vaccine.

Do You Need it This Year?

If you got the flu shot last year, do you need to get one this year?  The answer is yes.  The flu vaccine is different each year.  Just like the influenza virus variates and changes each year, the influenza vaccine is adjusted each year to try to combat the latest strains of the flu.

Where Can You Get Your Flu Shot?

There are several places to get the flu shot each year, with many offering free shots. Ochsner LSU Health Clinics, Willis Knighton Quick Care Clinics, and almost all pharmacies across the Arklatex are offering the flu shot.  It only takes a couple of minutes, though depending on where you go, you might need to pre-register to get in and out quickly.
