Should Non-Rock Artists be Inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame?

First and foremost I want to stress the fact that I consider Whitney Houston and Notorious BIG to artists of the highest caliber.  At no point during the following rant should you confuse my passion for an insult to their skill as musical artists.

That being said:  Why are non-rock and roll artists being considered and even inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?  Rappers, R&B singers, country singers and more have gotten the highest rock honor in the land - but why?  I'm pretty sure that Van Halen isn't going to be inducted into the Hip-Hop Hall of Fame anytime soon.

Seriously, if we changed the name of the organization to the American Music Hall of Honor, then anyone can get in - but that's not the case.

If you haven't heard, the 2020 class of inductees are:

• Depeche Mode
• The Doobie Brothers
• Whitney Houston
• Nine Inch Nails
• The Notorious B.I.G.
• T. Rex

Call me a stickler for details, but this is like Drew Brees being inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame because he throws a ball good.  I mean, they're both sports, right?
