Shreveport Dr. Reports People ‘Cutting in Line’ for COVID Vaccine
We're all anxious about the vaccine. When can I get mine? How many doses do I need to be protected? When can we get back to "normal?" If you don't have these thoughts running around in your head, either you haven't been paying attention to what's been happening in the world over the last 12 months or you're already protected from the coronavirus through the vaccine or antibodies your body created because you've beaten COVID-19.
Now, the Louisiana Department of Health’s (LDH) medical director for northwest Louisiana, Dr. Martha Whyte, is sounding the alarm over over-zealous Louisiana residents who have been attempting (and sometimes succeeding) to "cut in line" for the coveted vaccine. According to a report from KSLA, health officials have been taking note of folks who are clearly not 70-years old+ or a frontline, healthcare worker bragging about getting the shot.
I know we are all eager to protect ourselves from the disease that has been ravaging our planet for the last year, but Dr. Whyte makes a very important point: If you are somehow finagling a spot at the front of the line, you are literally taking the place of someone who is at a much higher risk of a fatal infection than you are. Someone could die because of your selfishness.
