The search for a permanent Shreveport Police Chief is on. Recently, seven candidates took the Civil Service test to see if they qualified to continue in the process. Applicants had to score a 75 or higher to move on.

The scores for the seven candidates are:

  • Chief Benjamin Raymond - 94
  • Lieutenant Janice Dailey - 92
  • Sergeant Michael Carter - 89
  • Corporal Jason Frazier - 89
  • Sergeant Kevin Strickland - 88
  • Assistant Chief of Police Wayne Smith - 86
  • Lieutenant Tedris Smith - 78

Since all qualified for the position under state law, they will continue on in the process. The next step is for the candidates' applications to be reviewed by Mayor Adrian Perkins' eight-person Law Enforcement Advisory Panel. The group, which includes Sheriff Steve Prator and former SPD Jim Taliaferro, will review the scores, interview candidates, and make a recommendation to the Mayor.

Mayor Perkins told KEEL when the process was first announced that unless there are extenuating circumstances, he would choose the city's next Chief based on the panel's recommendation.
