Fans of Shreveport's Happy Belly's Italian Ice finally get some good news. The Youree Drive business is reopening on Saturday, March 13. The popular treat spot was forced to close back in October. But it was not because of Covid-19. You will recall a drunk driver smashed into the business wiping out the structural integrity of the store. The car sailed all the way over to the Capitol One bank branch damaging a wall at that business too.

At the time of the crash back in October, Leslie McMurray the owner of Happy Belly's told KEEL News the unidentified drunk driver "tore down two brick columns, demolished marquee sign, and smashed a glass door."

Construction crews found structural damage to the roof and the walls inside the business as a result of the high speed impact. The glass door and the drive-through window was also destroyed.

But the work has now been complete and McMurray says she is ready to open back up to her customers. She says: "my staff is very excited to get back to seeing all of the customers who have been so loyal over the years." Since the crash, the only way you could get a fix was if you went to an event where the store's mobile operation was set up.

Happy Belly's does provide on-site service for special events at schools, festivals, special events and fund raisers. That will continue..
