Shreveport’s James Burton honors Buddy Holly
On Saturday August 6th, Lubbock Texas will celebrate their most famous son when they host Buddy Holly's 85th birthday celebration at the Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts & Sciences. The star-studded line-up of celebrities scheduled to celebrate Buddy's 85th birthday include Peter Frampton, Duane Eddy, and legendary Shreveport guitarist James Burton.
In addition to being best known as Elvis Presley's guitarist and leader of his TCB Band, I could list page after page of professional accomplishments and accolades James Burton has amassed throughout his legendary 70 plus year career... and still going! In fact, my wife and I just went to the Natchitoches Jazz & Blues Festival where James recently performed. There was a really cool moment we got to experience when Marty Haggard, Merle Haggard's son, introduced James to come out and play on one of Merle's songs, that James played on in the original recording.... very cool.
The list of artists James Burton has recorded with is as long and varied as there are types of music, spanning genres and eras. Just a few of the artists James has recorded with over the years include Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Elvis Costello, Emmy Lou Harris, Roy Orbison, Glen Campbell, John Denver, Vince Gill and Graham Parsons. And that doesn't even scratch the surface.
If you'd like to head to Lubbock to attend Buddy Holley's 85th birthday celebration, it will be Saturday, August 6th at the Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts & Sciences.
