Soundgarden to Play ‘Superunknown’ in Its Entirety to Celebrate 20th Anniversary
This year Soundgarden celebrates the 20th Anniversary of their most successful album - "Superunknown."
The album peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart, sold more than 5 million copies in the U.S., and gave us the hits such 'Black Hole Sun,' 'Spoonman' and 'Fell on Black Days.'
Look for special 20th anniversary editions to be released on June 3. Of course, you can expect the requisite extras, with the two-disc deluxe edition featuring the original remastered album along with several demos, live rehearsals, b-sides and more.
If you want to get a second mortgage on the house, you can pick up the uber-colossel super deluxe edition that comes with the two deluxe edition discs, along with two other discs with even more demos, rehearsals and b-sides.
And there's more! A fifth disc has the album re-mixes in Blu-Ray Audio 5.1 Surround Sound. Order now and they'll throw in a hardbound book with liner notes by David Fricke and new album art from Josh Graham! Actually, you don't have to order now to get all that extra stuff. It just sounds better in the commercial.
And with Record Store Day coming up on April 19, the band will have a special "Record Store Day" collection, with the "Superunknown" singles and b-sides with new artwork sleeves by Josh Graham will be reissued as five limited edition 10-inch vinyl records.
Basically, the ardent Soundgarden fan can plan on eating ramen for the remainder of 2014.
If the multiple ways to blow your hard-earned cash weren't enough, plan on heading to Austin, Texas for South By Southwest, because the band will be busting out the album in its entirety for the first time ever at a March 13 show at the festival.
