State Audit Shows Multiple Problems with Shreveport Finances
The audit report we've been waiting on for a few weeks is out. The Legislative Auditor’s Office has now released the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report on the City of Shreveport's Finances.
The results aren't pretty. The audit points out several deficiencies in the city and it also includes the city's response and plan of action. The report outlines the misuse of public money and a response that includes the arrest of four city employees accused of using city money and resources for their own benefit.
The report also details the arrests of three other city workers who allegedly used city resources to "perform work on private driveways".
The audit also found issues with the city’s controls over payroll processing and payroll data. One finding also noted the City of Shreveport for incurring nearly $190,000 in penalties for filing state payroll taxes late.
