Stone Sour Reveal June 2017 Release for ‘Hydrograd’ Album While Kidnapping Superfan
While a firm release date has yet to be set in "stone," so to speak, thanks to a new video from Stone Sour we can confirm that the band will be releasing their Hydrograd album during the month of June.
In the video above, the band has some fun with one of their superfans, tracking down a guy named Bert at the famous Porto's Bakery in Burbank and whisking him away to the studio for a quick listen to several tracks on their new album. Bert was under the impression that the band would just be signing some items for him, but when they visit him at work, they have him join them on a quick ride over to the studio. After meeting producer Jay Ruston, Bert takes a seat at the board where they play him six songs, but before you think you're getting a preview, Corey Taylor breaks into the video and reveals that the listen was only for Bert and that the music would be "coming soon" for everyone else.
Hydrograd was recorded with Ruston at Sphere Studios in North Hollywood, Calif., and details on the effort are sparse at this point. Corey Taylor did tell BBC Radio 1's Rock Show that the band "destroyed it" in the studio, adding, "Not only are the songs good but the energy is incredible, because it has that live vibe. This is not beat detected, Auto-Tuned, pitch-corrected — nothing. It is so badass, it's not even funny."
He later spoke about the direction of the music, stating, "This album is great because it's got elements of everything. It's got the heavy energy of the '80s, there's punk moments, there's hard rock moments, all the great amalgam of music. There's even jazz and hip-hop moments. It's really, really cool. It's probably the coolest album I've made since the first Slipknot album, let's put it that way. It's dope, dude. And, hey, I feel very confident making that statement, because it's so good."
Stay tuned for further details on the new Stone Sour album as they becoming available, but in the meantime, start prepping yourself for Hydrograd coming in June. And look for the band touring with Korn this summer.
