SWEPCO Resumes Controlled Winter Blackouts
After suspending the practice yesterday, SWEPCO has announced that they have resumed controlled outages to "lessen burden" on the power grid. The power company says the decision was made to prevent long term, uncontrollable outages.
Below is the announcement from the company about resuming the controlled blackouts.
SWEPCO says that the outages should not last more than a couple of hours, unless there are extenuating circumstances. At this time, there is not a schedule made available to the public about when or how long service may be suspended. Residents using SWEPCO's service are unhappy with the company for cutting electricity to homes during near record weather conditions. The company continues to urge users to reduce their energy usage to prevent mass outages.
