Take the Poll: Would You Confront a Porch Pirate?
You see more and more photos on social media that say the same thing. It's phone pic of a "porch pirate" casually taking a package from a neighbors home, strolling back to his or her vehicle before driving away, well under the speed limit.
So, the question is, is that all you'd do? Would you just snap the photo, post it on your Facebook page and ask, "Do you know this person?" Or would you take it a step further? Would you confront the thief taking your neighbor's belongings? And if you didn't want to go face-to-face with the pirate, would you at least yell something like, "I can see you and I'm calling the police!"
That's what we asked KEEL's Erin McCarty during the final hour of Friday morning's program. They're your neighbors. They're your friends. You'd look out for them the way you'd hope they'd look out for you. After all, it takes a village...right?
Nossir. Not this time.
Actually, McCarty's reasons for "laying low" are pretty reasonable. You don't know anything about the thief. She (or he) could be armed and dangerous and if startled, the situation might escalate rapidly. And she logically points out, is a just-delivered package worth possibly risking your life?
But here's what she said she would do. She'd take pictures of the criminal and the vehicle. And she'd do her best to get the license number. And then she'd call the cops.
So, what would you do if you found yourself in the same situation? You have three choices. Make yours...then be listening to Robert J Wright and Erin McCarty Monday morning on 101.7 / 710 KEEL for the results.
