Texas Teacher Fired for Showing Dirty Movie To Entire Class
Being a teacher is hard, and sometimes unforgiving work. I'm sure that there is a bit of flexibility when it comes to your schedule and possibly some other areas of the job - but when it comes to the lesson plans and approved curriculum, it's pretty strict. That means that adding a book or video to your teaching plan that deviates from what you are supposed to be teaching is at best frowned upon, and at worst a fire-able offense - especially if it's pornography.
Unfortunately, that's the case coming out of Klein Collins High School in Houston, Texas. According to the New York Post, High School teacher Kevin Welchel was allegedly watching porn on his laptop when he somehow turned on his classroom projector. What he was watching on his small, private screen was now enlarged and taking up an entire wall!
Reportedly, the school fired Welchel immediately and district spokesperson Justin Ebert issued this statement:
The individual was immediately removed and is no longer employed by the district. The district does not tolerate such completely unacceptable conduct.
Not only did Welchel lose his job, he has also been charged with a crime. Officially, he has been charged with "display of harmful material to a minor," a misdemeanor that could land him in jail for up to a year and cost him up to $4,000 in fines.
