Wandering into Shreveport for the very first time? Here's how you know you've made it.

Let's face it, our town has a lot of ups and a few downs. There's a lot of things that come to mind when I think about Shreveport and what's so unique about our neck of the woods.

It might be difficult to narrow that list down to five, but I'm going to give it a shot.

Below are the top five ways to know you're entering Shreveport.

1 - Potholes the Size of Texas

Ironic that I would use our neighboring state as symbolism, but truly, anyone from Shreveport knows this is no exaggeration. We have as many potholes up and down our streets as we have mosquitoes. Frankly, I have a hard time distinguishing which one is worse.

2 - Gordon McKernan... EVERYWHERE.

Piggybacking off the potholes, you know you've made it to Shreveport when every time you hit a pothole you ook up and see Gordon McKernan's face. I've said that I believe Gordon is the most famous person in Shreveport, even though he doesn't live here. Hey, you would be too if you owned 1.2 million billboards around town with your face on them.

3 - That Storm Headed Directly At You? Don't Worry About That.

That's right, no storm can fully penetrate our Barksdale Bubble. This widely-known and often-believed conspiracy theory is floated around social media every time a decent storm is headed our way, and more times than not, the bubble often appears on our radars while we experience a glimmer of what the storm was expected to be.

4 - The rush of People Complaining About Everything.

Here's one sure-fire way to know if you're in Shreveport... Turn on your location and hop on social media. If you look around and see hundreds of people passionately complaining about topics ranging from minor to major, you're probably in Shreveport.

5 - The Radio DJs Sound a Little Sexier.

I mean, let's be honest, is there a better way to know you're in Shreveport. Radio people aren't supposed to look this good, so when you meet one of us and you're taken back by our extreme good looks, you instantly know you're in Shreveport, LA.
