As an avid bass fisherman, I never really slowed down to think just how good we've got it here in our area. I was too busy catching fish.

But in a recent conversation with an out-of-state friend, he brought my "privilege" to light when he said, "when it comes to bass fishing, you guys have the absolute best in the country."

And you know what?  He's right.  And if you haven't taken time to take the kids and hit one of our incredible lakes lately, you don't have an excuse this weekend.  This Saturday and Sunday, June 13 and 14, Louisiana will again observe our "Free Fishing Weekend."

There's no license requirement for anyone.  Not in state anglers, nor visitors from any other state.  No one will be required to purchase a fishing license.  Now we must all adhere to size and creel limits, so check that lake's specifics before you hit the water, but most importantly, HIT THE WATER.

Circling back to what my friend mentioned about "the best in the country."  He was referencing Toledo Bend, the first ever lake to be twice named the Number One Bass Fishing Lake in America by Bassmaster.

Of course we have nearly as many lakes as we have Baptist churches, but those in the list below have verified themselves as the Top 8 Bass Fishing Lakes of the Ark-La-Tex!
