First ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Reviews Call It Marvel’s Funniest Movie
I liked Thor: Ragnarok. (For why, just read my review.) And it is pretty clear I’m not the only one. In fact, I’m actually on the lower end of positive reactions, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. With 30 reviews so far on Rotten Tomatoes, Taiki Waititi’s Marvel sequel hasn’t gotten a splat yet. (Over at Metacritic, it’s got a very respectable 77.) I expect the movie to get some negative reviews eventually, but not many.
You’ll find many more reviews at either of those sites above, but here’s a quick roundup of our favorite non-ScreenCrush reviews so far. Thor: Ragnarok opens in theaters on November 3.
Bryan Bishop, The Verge:
The most fun I’d had in a superhero movie in years.
Sheri Linden, The Hollywood Reporter:
In the spirit of its source material, winningly puts the accent on ‘comic.’
Nicholas Barber, BBC.com:
Undoubtedly the best of the character’s three films, it’s more confident than the others, more kaleidoscopically colourful, and more eye-catching in its design.
David Jenkins, Little White Lies:
It’s like the Mars Attacks! of Marvel movies – and in a good way.
Dave Schilling, Birth.Movies.Death.:
These movies defy audience fatigue and changing trends because they refuse to stand still or coast on formula.
Peter Debruge, Variety:
Director Taika Waititi injects a welcome dose of self-parody into the character's standalone series.
Kelli Weston, The Skinny:
Once the film hits its stride, it’s an enjoyable and compelling watch.
Chris Nashawaty, Entertainment Weekly:
Ragnarok is basically a Joke Delivery System — and on that score, it works.
Kyle Anderson, Nerdist:
Funnier than all other Marvel movies to date.
Jim Vejoda, IGN:
This makes for a fun and often hilarious romp, and a film that looks as vibrant and out there as an old Jack Kirby Marvel comic. But it also encapsulates the MCU’s increasing desire to go for the gag, to mock its own innate absurdity.
