In honor of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice, the Fleet Reserve Association, Branch 98, is holding a 'two-bell' observance for Memorial Day Monday in Shreveport.

It's only fitting that the Fleet Reserve Association, representing enlisted members of the United States Navy, Coast Guard, and Marines will be honoring the memory of shipmates who have passed in service at the Lowe-Mcfarlane American Legion Post No. 14, on the banks of Cross Lake in Shreveport. It makes sense to be on the water for such a solemn occasion.

The public is invited to mark the occasion Monday, May 31, 2021, at 2 pm at the American Legion, located at 5315 Lakeshore Drive, Shreveport, LA, 71149. US Congressman Mike Johnson will speak and the local winners of the Fleet Reserve Association essay contest will be shared. The subject for this year's essay was 'The Bill of Rights and Me.' A wreath will also be placed on the water in remembrance.

Personally, I feel almost guilty enjoying recreational activities over the long Memorial Day holiday/weekend. After all, the day is meant to honor those who died while performing their military duties for the United States of America. How will you honor those who have passed before us in the name of freedom? I'd love to hear of any other events you'll be attending.
