A Shreveport Police Department jailer and another officer are on paid leave, accused of violating department policy.

Jailer I Alfredo Lofton was involved in a one-car crash on I-20 at Spring Street on May 30. He was charged with first-offense driving while intoxicated.

The rules and regulations of the Shreveport Fire and Police Municipal Civil Service Board state that "when an employee is charged with a felony, he shall, and if a misdemeanor he may, be immediately relieved of duty and placed on departmental leave for up to one week at full pay and with continuing seniority."

Lofton was hired by the department in August 2007.

Corporal Bernice Lefeat is also on paid leave. He was hired by the department in February 2009. The reasons for administrative action against him haven't been released.
