We will now have statewide rules in place for the ride-hailing services.

Governor John Bel Edwards signed the measure during a ceremony at Nicholls State University. Students and faculty at the Thibodaux school have been fighting to bring the ride sharing services to the campus for years.

The companies currently operate in Shreveport and Bossier City along with Baton Rouge, Lafayette and New Orleans.

Rules to operate in those markets vary, but the companies are now refusing to negotiate deals with individual cities. They wanted Louisiana to join the 44 other states with statewide rules.

Lyft has been operating in Shreveport Bossier since the fall of 2017. Uber came to town in February of 2018. Dozens of folks are making some extra cash driving for one of the ride sharing companies.
