Update: America's / Louisiana's Worst Cities to Drive In

With Americans increasingly using personal vehicles ( or Uber, Lyft, etc.) rather than public transportation because of COVID 19 health warnings, personal-finance website WalletHub today released its latest report on 2020's Best & Worst Cities to Drive In.

To determine the most driver-friendly places in the U.S., WalletHub compared the 100 largest cities using 31 key metrics. The data used includes things like the average price of gas to the average time spent in traffic during commutes to the number of auto repair shops in the area.

The WalletHub study points out that the average American driver spends more than 310 hours on the road every year just getting to and from work.Add the costs of wasted time and fuel due to traffic congestions, and as WalletHub points out, that comes to about $1,400 per driver each year.

Road quality is another major factor. Not just in Louisiana, but across America highways and bridges are grossly underfunded, with an estimated $836 billion backlog of repairs needed.

So, how did Louisiana's two largest cities stack up? Well, according to WalletHub, New Orleans (to absolutely no one's surprise) ranked 80 out of 100 cities and doing even worse than the overall score in road maintenance and availability of auto repair.

Baton Rouge ranked higher, 55 out of 100, by comparison. The state capitol ranked very high (25) in maintenance availability, but pulled a terrible score - 88 nationwide - in driver safety.
