Early this morning, several Shreveport Police units were called to Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport - St. Mary Medical Center. Officers were called to the Highland neighborhood facility just after 5:30 this morning.

Police were responding to calls of a shooting at the hospital. The shooting is apparently took place on or around the 4th floor of the facility. Loyola College Prep and St. Johns classes has been cancelled for today because of this active shooter situation.

Loyola College Prep students use the Schumpert complex for parking.

KSLA reported this was an active shooter situation, which Shreveport Police later confirmed.

Shreveport police have identified the suspect in the hospital shooting as 41-year-old Taniel Cole.They say Cole entered the hospital this morning armed with a gun, and started shooting. One man was shot in the leg. SPD says Cole is from the Farmerville area.

Sgt. Angie Wilhite says “The suspect made threats to kill any law enforcement officer or any others who tried to stop him today.”

Now, KTAL reports that the Mississippi State Police have arrested Cole near the Alabama state line.

KTAL also says that Cole carjacked a woman across the street from the hospital, according to the Shreveport Police Department. They add that Cole is accused of taking the woman as a hostage, and driving her to Monroe. That's where she was reportedly able to escape and call 911.
