As Southwest Louisiana braces for the impact of a Category 3 hurricane, not many people get to see inside the eyewall of a hurricane. As Louisiana prepares for Hurricane Laura, let take a look inside one of Louisiana's deadliest hurricanes, Hurricane Katrina.

Hurricane Katrina caused over $125 billion in damage to New Orleans and nearby areas in August of 2005. Katrina was the third major hurricane of the Atlantic hurricane season that year causing over 1200 deaths.

Hurricane Katrina was massive, spewing hurricane strength winds outward 120 miles from the center eyewall.

On August 29, 2005, a NOAA P-3 flew into the eyewall of Hurricane Katrina as it made landfall as a Category 5 hurricane. The eyewall of Katrina was calm, sunny and quite beautiful. Take a look.
