We are getting close to a cut off date for making final plans for Mardi Gras parades in Louisiana. The big question is whether or not there will be parades in the spring in New Orleans.

NOLA.com reports Mayor LaToya Cantrell has asked the captains of New Orleans Carnival krewes to give her “drop dead” dates for making decisions on moving forward with the parades and other related parties that are part of the Mardi Gras celebrations.

Mayor Cantrell has not made a decision yet on whether or not the parades can happen considering the pandemic.
The captain of the Krewe of Bacchus, Clark Brennan has given the Mayor the date of December 1st as a "drop dead" date he would need to plan a parade for February 14th.

KEEL News asked Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser about the status of Mardi Gras in our state. He says he is working closely with organizers across the state to try to find creative ways to move forward with plans to hold Mardi Gras celebrations.

In Shreveport Bossier, the Krewe of Centaur has already announced plans to postpone their spring parade.

Here's part of the statement from the Captain:

I want you to understand that this vote was a very hard decision. The safety of the members of this Krewe was the foremost concern. The unknowns of the future of this country and this pandemic is scary and I feel that it would have been impossible to be able to put the safety of our members and the public at risk during these unknown times.

The Krewe is financially sound at this point and we will survive. We are strong and united. We will come back even stronger next year. But with that said, I strongly encourage each and everyone to do your best to pay your memberships. Now that we have cancelled our big events like Coronation and Bal, there will be no income coming in to support the monthly bills as in a normal year.
