Will Bossier School Actions Settle Legal Fight over Religion?
Bossier school leaders have announced some changes are being made in schools to comply with the federal court rulings on separation of church and state.
The parish is implimenting mandatory in-service training for all administrators, teachers and coaches on the policies and underlying laws. The statement from the parish says
We trust these affirmative steps will resolve the current federal court matter in short order so that precious taxpayer funds can be spent on continuing to improve the quality of educational services provided to students rather than on potentially expensive litigation.
Eric Rothschild of the Americans United for Separation of Church and State talked with us about this move from the school system. We wanted to know if this will help settle the lawsuit.
Americans United for Separation of Church and State wants to end what they call is "the widespread, unconstitutional promotion of Christianity throughout Bossier public schools.”
We also caught up with Congressman Mike Johnson to weigh in on this debate. Johnson has done years of work on previously acted as Bossier's Defense attorney the last time these kinds of suits were filed againts the Parish.
Gary McCoy from KISS Country recently talked with Bossier School Board member Mike Mosura about this polarizing debate.
