Tomorrow, a moment we've been eagerly anticipating for more than a year could finally be here.  With the COVID numbers finally taking a downward turn in respects to new cases, hospitalizations, and deaths we may be about to take a big step towards getting back to life as we once knew it.

Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards May Be Dropping the Mask Mandate Tuesday

Since July of 2020, Louisiana has been under what has commonly been referred to as the "mask mandate."  It was lifted at the end of April of this year, when vaccines became widely available in our state and it looked like we had COVID on the run - only to be reinstated in August in response to yet another wave of cases thanks to the infamous "Delta" variant.

According to WBRZ, the current order that requires "residents to wear masks in public indoor settings regardless of their vaccination status and encompasses students from kindergarten to college" expires on Wednesday (October 27th) is top priority for the governor's press conference slated for Tuesday (October 26th) at 3 p.m.

Governor Edwards will end the mask requirement (probably)

When you look at new infections, hospitalizations, and deaths across the board in Louisiana - it looks like we are emerging from the latest wave.  The latest data compiled by the New York Times shows that things are improving on pretty much every front - including vaccinations.  The latest numbers from the CDC show that more than half (53%) of Louisiana residents have received at least one dose of the vaccine, and nearly half (47%) are already fully vaccinated.

At this point, it looks like Louisiana is on board with kicking this pandemic to the curb.  With the progress we've made and the momentum we're carrying - I think it's time to end the mask mandate.  It seems likely that Gov. Edwards will also see that it's time to let us breathe free once again.  There is also a slim chance that he will take the ultra-cautious route and keep us masked up through the end of the year.
