Questioning draft picks is a pastime in NFL circles (heck, it's made Mel Kiper's career). Just ask one little-known writer who ought to think about going into hiding because of his prognostication.

Back in 2011 a writer for Bleacher Report named Jim Folsom whipped up a scathing post titled "Cam Newton: Why Carolina Panthers' New QB Is the Worst NFL Draft Pick Ever."

In hindsight, it's pretty funny, considering Newton has led Carolina to the Super Bowl. Even if he doesn't play another down in the NFL, he will never be the worst NFL draft pick ever. He's already accomplished too much for that.

His column starts out with a bang:

Cam Newton is a sure-fire bust. I am so certain of this that if he is the Panthers' starting quarterback in 2016, I will buy a Cam Newton jersey and stand in the stadium parking lot in my underwear when the Panthers come to Tampa Bay and hold a sign proclaiming that Auburn rules over Florida and Carolina rules over Tampa Bay.

Folsom then lists several reasons why Newton's success as an NFL quarterback will never happen and spends a good chunk of time lauding Tim Tebow, whose best view of the NFL now comes via DirecTV.

The article ends with Folsom boldly stating, "In five years, when Tebow is leading Denver into the playoffs and Cam Newton is riding someone's bench, remember this article."

Well, it's five years later. The wagons are circling and the lynch mob is out with torches in full force, as Folsom is taking the kind of beating reserved for quarterbacks with a porous offensive line.

Ironically, Folsom, who doesn't appear to have written anything for Bleacher Report in two years, has written another post in defense of Newton's on-field antics. It doesn't mention his previous column, which makes you wonder if he's forced himself to forget he ever took pen to paper. Fortunately for him, the internet will not let him forget.
