We are almost at the end of 2016...and man what a year it was to be a wrestling fan. Whether or not you were into the storylines, 2016 featured some of the best matches in recent history. From Ring of Honor to NJPW to WWE, everyone brought their A game.

With that being said, it is hard to pick the Top 5 Matches of the Year without leaving some amazing matches on the cutting floor. We had classics from Charlotte and Sasha Banks, Finn Balor in NXT and on the main roster, Cody Rhodes v Kurt Angle...hell AJ Styles put in some amazing work in NJPW before coming over to the WWE. It was hard to chose just 5.

So, feel free to disagree. Feel free to tell me who you think belongs on the list. But here are my Top 5 matches from 2016.

5. Young Bucks v the Addiction v the Motor City Machine Guns - 2016 ROH All Star Extravaganza

2016 has been the year of the Tag Team. We've had tons of quality tag matches out of the likes of the Young Bucks, the Bullet Club, Revival and American Alpha just to name a few. But this match...just holy s**t. The fact that this is at 5 tells you how good of a year it was.

4. Kota Ibushi v TJ Perkins - Semi Finals of 2016 WWE's Cruiserweight Classic

The CWC had a lot of fans wondering if guys like Cedric Alexander, Ibushi, or Rich Swann could hang in the WWE Universe. Well, this match was the gem of an amazing tournament.

3. AJ Styles v John Cena - Summer Slam 2016

This was MOTY on a LOT of people's lists. And deservingly so. But, as good as this match was, it certainly not #1.

2. DIY v Revival - 2 out of 3 Falls Match NXT Takeover: Toronto

If you haven't watched this match yet, you need to. Matches like this make the 10 dollars a month for the Network worth it. This is wrestling at its best.

1. Nakamura v Styles - Wrestle Kingdom 2016

Hands down, the best match of the year. This was only weeks away from AJ's debut in the Royal Rumble and about a month away from Nak debuting in NXT. These guys went out and put on one hell of a show on their way out the NJPW door. We need this match at WrestleMania this year.
