Watch Chris Jericho + Chuck Billy Lead Metal Allegiance Tribute to Queen’s Freddie Mercury
There's no doubt that Queen's Freddie Mercury had a voice like no other, but in order to capture the true essence of the performer, you need some of that rock star look. So when Metal Allegiance prepared to salute Mercury at their "Tribute to Fallen Heroes" show, Fozzy vocalist Chris Jericho came prepared.
"This next guy is one of my true heroes. You can tell by this jacket that I'm wearing," said Jericho, bringing attention to his shiny studded coat. "If we're doing a Queen song, and we're going to honor Freddie Mercury, then I'm wearing a silver and gold jacket filled with studs, and that's just the way it is."
After introducing The Winery Dogs bassist Billy Sheehan to the stage, Jericho exited with Testament's Chuck Billy returning to front the first portion of the Queen medley, taking on "Dragon Attack." With Mike Portnoy's double kick keeping a heavy pace and Alex Skolnick riffing away, the song ramped up to speed quickly as Machine Head's Phil Demmel and Sheehan added to the chaotic pace. Mid-song, The Winery Dogs pair of Sheehan and Portnoy got a jam in showing how well they play off of each other, eventually giving way to a blistering Skolnick solo.
And as stated, the performance was a medley, with Jericho and his sparkly coat keeping the energy high in place of Billy for the latter portion of "Stone Cold Crazy." Meanwhile, Demmel got his shot in the spotlight, wailing away on guitar during the back half. Watch the performance in the player above.
