Two Texas men recently plead guilty in the U.S. District Court in Shreveport to a charge of possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute for their attempt to smuggle more than 10 kilograms of the dangerous drug.

In May of this year, troopers stopped 22 year old Felipe Rodriguez and 24 year old Brandon Montoya around mile marker 31 on I-20 in Haughton.  During a search of the SUV, troopers saw some plastic bags in a hidden compartment.  Authorities then took the vehicle to the Louisiana State Police Troop G headquarters in Bossier City where 10 bags were recovered from the vehicle.  In total, troopers would find 22 pounds of the synthetic heroin hidden away in the secret compartment.  According to DEA Special Agent in Charge Stephen G. Azzam - that amounts to 5 million fatal doses of the drug.

KSLA reports the 2 men are facing 10 years to life in prison and a $10 million fine each.  The pair will be sentenced on January 31st of 2018.
