Previously, DeSoto Parish recorded 491 positive COVID cases. That number has been lowered this week.

In Northwest Louisiana alone, we've now seen two agencies lower their COVID numbers due to faulty case recordings. The Red River Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness announced just last week that they discovered duplicate positive cases, and lowered their official numbers. This week, DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office has announced they also found duplicates.

In a Facebook post today, DPSO states, "“It has come to our attention that many recorded cases in our parish are duplicated.” They went on to say, “This could be caused due to individuals being tested multiple times after first testing positive."

The Red River Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness reduced their area's positive cases by about 40% after finding the duplicates.

DeSoto Parish slashed it's positive cases from 491 to 386 after tier discovery. The sheriff's office also stated that the numbers are constantly being corrected and adjusted. They expect to have a fully-corrected case-count no later than next Monday.

Granted, NWLA is a small-sample size, but if we already have two agencies finding discrepancies, who's to say that more duplicates in our area, and around the country, won't be soon discovered as well?
