Dog Mauling Leads to Arrest of Caddo Felon For Drugs and Guns
Last Friday, April 15, Caddo Parish Sheriff's Deputies responded to a call about the vicious killing of a dog and ultimately ended up arresting an armed felon.
According to Sheriff Steve Prator, Derrick Johnson, 24, of Greenwood, Louisiana, is the owner of a pair of dogs that mauled a neighbor's dog the same day.
Police records indicate that just before 8:30 pm on April 15, a Greenwood resident reported that two dogs had viciously killed their dog and dragged the lifeless animal to another home in the 4800 block of Fawn Lane.
As Caddo Deputies were on the scene, they made contact with the owner of the home where the dogs had gone. Derrick Johnson was exiting his vehicle as deputies approached and they smelled a very strong odor of marijuana and saw a gun in Johnson's car.
Deputies investigated and discovered that Johnson was a convicted felon. After obtaining a warrant, they searched his home where they found two rifles, two pistols, and thirteen large bags of marijuana, weighing approximately 13.642 pounds, with a street value of approximately $61,879.
Johnson was immediately arrested and booked into Caddo Correctional Center for possession with intent to distribute schedule I marijuana, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm with CDS and Caddo Parish Ordinance dog at large.
