Residents in one Bossier Parish neighborhood are being advised to boil their water before consuming it.
Normally, I don't observe boil advisories, but then I got to thinking about it. It was just a few short years ago that they found brain-eating amoeba in the Bossier water supply, so I'm a little more cautious now. After all, we use water to cook with, to bathe in, and to mix up our children's baby formula.
Parts of the Dogwood Park Subdivision in Bossier Parish have been placed under a boil advisory.
The boil advisory was issued by Consolidated Waterworks/Sewerage District 1 after a contractor had to shut off the water to complete a tie-in. The boil order only affects an isolated part of Dogwood comprised of around 50 homes on Satinwood Circle, Silver Oaks Circle, and Haguewood Circle. It's recommended that residents in this area disinfect their water before consuming or using it to brush their teeth, etc... Consolidated Waterworks/Sewerage District 1 will notify residents after the water has been tested and deemed safe to consume again without boiling.
Here's How to Disinfect Your Tap Water According to the Louisiana Department of Health–Office of Public Health.
Boil water for one full minute in a clean container. The one minute starts after the water has been brought to a rolling boil. The flat taste can be eliminated by shaking the water in a clean bottle, pouring it from one clean container to another, or by adding a small pinch of salt to each quart of water that is boiled.
Happy boiling!
