Did ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’ Just Add Sylvester Stallone to the Cast?
Last month when Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 director James Gunn revealed on Facebook that Kurt Russell, Elizabeth Debicki and Chris Sullivan had joined the cast of his sequel, he promised “We’ll have more surprises for you in the coming months.” Has one of those surprises already been spoiled?
The New York Daily News is reporting that recent Oscar-loser Sylvester Stallone was photographed in Atlanta where Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is filming. At the hotel where the cast is staying. With a copy of the script. Headed to the set. In Chris Pratt’s car.
Taken separately that seems like awfully circumstantial evidence, but when presented all together, it certainly paints a picture of a guy who’s making an appearance in a movie.
As you might expect, Marvel refused to comment, but a “source” told the Daily News it’s likely that Stallone’s role “would be a cameo” and not a major part of the film. Which is weird because Stallone is not the cameo kind of guy. Stallone is used to starring in movies.
There’s a lot of question marks at this point surrounding Stallone’s participation, including if he even is participating. He could just be visiting old Tango and Cash pall Kurt Russell to say hello? Maybe he was in Atlanta and they invited him on set as a courtesy?
If Stallone were joining the Guardians of the Galaxy 2 cast, he’d be joining Russell, Debicki, Sullivan, Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Karen Gillan, Michael Rooker, Sean Gunn, Glenn Close and Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket.
Set to the all-new sonic backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage.
Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 opens in theaters on May 5, 2017.
