Guidelines for New Year’s Eve Fireworks in the Shreveport/Bossier City Area
With the new year drawing near, fireworks stands are popping up everywhere! Here are some guidelines on when and where you can shoot fireworks in our area!
Clearly, rule number one is not to celebrate the new year by firing a gun in the air. It seems like a silly warning, but someone does it every year and it can seriously injure someone. After all, what goes up, must come down!
So, when and where can you shoot fireworks with your family? The answer depends entirely on where you live. KSLA put together a list of fireworks rules for several local areas. Don't forget to keep a bucket or hose nearby in case of fire and please, don't let children shoot fireworks unsupervised.
From KSLA:
Benton: Fireworks can be used until 10 pm each day except on New Year’s Eve when the cutoff time is 1 am Jan. 1. No fireworks are allowed after 10 pm on New Year’s Day.
Bossier City: Fireworks can be sold and used between 10 am and 10 pm each day through Jan. 1 except on New Year’s Eve when they will be allowed until 12:30 am Jan. 1. Those who are found guilty of violating the law can get up to 60 days in jail and can be fined up to $500.
Bossier outside the city limits: The parish has no restriction on the days when fireworks can be used. As for the hours, the parish has a law prohibiting excessive noise between 10 pm and 7 am “New Year’s Eve is an obvious exception on the time,” the Sheriff’s Office notes.
Shreveport: Fireworks, excluding bottle rockets and skyrockets, may be discharged in the city between 8 am and 10 pm each day except New Year’s Eve when they are allowed until 1 am Jan. 1.
Caddo outside city limits: The parish law is similar to Shreveport’s.
