A big rig on fire forced local police to shut down I-20 both east and westbound at Greenwood Road early this morning. An accident happened just before 4:30 this morning in the eastbound lanes involving the 18 wheeler and another vehicle. That wreck caused the cab portion of the truck to burst into flames.

EMS crews were also called to the scene to transport anyone who might have been injured in the wreck. But we do not know yet if anyone was hurt.

Again, I-20 is closed in both directions at Greenwood Road. Traffic is being diverted onto Greenwood Road in both directions. Motorists are advised to take an alternate route.

The Fire Department sent out this report:

Shreveport Fire Department fire crews were dispatched at 4:25AM this morning to I-20 East Bound at the Hearne avenue overpass to a reported motor vehicle accident involving an 18-wheeler. Fire Engine 8 was the first unit on scene and reported the front cab of the rig on fire. Both occupants of the rig were able to escape out of the cab and were safely on the side of the interstate.

Seven fire companies (21 Firefighters) were dispatched to the scene and after 19 minutes the incident was placed under control. All I-20 westbound and eastbound traffic is being diverted to the Hearne Avenue exit ramps for alternative travel routes, as SFD Fire crews perform salvage and overhaul procedures. There were no injuries reported.
