A record number of artists from the region applied to be a part of this year's 2023 Red River Revel Arts Festival in downtown Shreveport, LA.

What's the story behind the Red River Revel Arts Festival?

The Red River Revel Arts Festival has been a signature event for Shreveport area residents for 47 years and prides itself on bringing our community the best in the arts from national, regional, and local artists and performers. Did you know that the Red River Revel Arts Festival was created in 1976 as a gift from the Junior League of Shreveport? In fact, Festival Plaza in downtown Shreveport was built for the Revel!

If you grew up here, chances are you took a field trip to the Revel and you know what a gift to our community this event truly is. Research shows that exposure to the arts fuels positive skills and capacities that are valued by leaders and employers, such as persistence, collaboration, creative thinking, problem-solving, and motivation. Plus, art, no matter the medium, makes our world a more beautiful place. In addition to bringing art to the Ark-La-Tex, the Revel also celebrates our unique regional culture.

Red River Revel 47 Art

For six months, artists on the local and regional levels were asked to submit their work and were juried by an independent body of art gallery curators, art collectors, and arts organizations staff members. Submissions were made in a plethora of mediums including ceramics/pottery, drawing, fiber, glass, jewelry, metal, mixed media, oil/acrylics, photography, sculpture, watercolor, wood, and more. This year, 156 applications came from 13 states across the country, as well as one from Mexico. The Revel is welcoming 44 new artists this year, along with 63 returning artists, for a total of 107 artists! Revelers will truly have the opportunity to 'Celebrate the Arts' in Shreveport again this year at one of the 'Top 100 Fine Arts Festivals' in the United States. We are very blessed to have this event in our community.

Red River Revel 47 Entertainment
