New Texas App Could Revolutionize Foster Care Across the State

According to AdoptUSKIds.org, there are currently close to 400,000 kids in foster care right now.  Most of them are hoping to find a forever home and family, but it's not a simple process.  Now, a new app for foster parents is taking aim at one of the biggest problems: An unacceptably high turnover rate.

The numbers from the Miracle Foundation (a Central Texas non-profit organization dedicated to connecting orphans with families) are daunting.  Their data shows that within the first year of becoming foster parents, a whopping 60% back out of their obligations.  That means 6 out of 10 foster situations just don't work out leaving those kids to continue their search for a forever family.

In an effort to improve those numbers, officials with the foundation worked with developers to create Fostershare.  The mobile app is available now, and the goal is simple:  Make it easy for foster parents and case managers to connect.

According to the report from KXAN, one of the biggest reasons foster parents bow out is the massive and confusing paperwork that must be done on a daily basis.  The app reportedly cuts through the forms and protocols that weigh down the entire process.

Reportedly, the technology can cut that lengthy process down to about 30 seconds a day.  It also helps foster parents make sure they are completing are required forms as well.  The hope is that if the process is far less frustrating for the foster parent, more of them will stick with it and the kids won't have to bounce from household to household.

The Miracle Foundation reports that over 1,000 people are currently using the app with fantastic results, and that number is growing every day.  They expect that by the end of 2022, close to 100 agencies and about 3,500 families will be using the app.
