Record Shreveport National Night Out Set for Tuesday
Shreveport Police kicked off registration for this year's National Night Out with a parade in downtown Shreveport on September 15th hoping to spur record registrations for this year's event. And it seems to have worked. This year has seen a record number of parties officially registered for Shreveport's National Night Out.
Shreveport Police are also holding a first-time ever Kick-off Party Tuesday afternoon at 4P to get the festivities underway. The public is invited to 1234 Texas Avenue to fellowship with officers, friends and family before officers and city officials begin to tour the city visiting as many registered parties as they are able. The first 200 participants were able pick up a special yard sign to show their support for the Shreveport Police Department.
National Night Out evolved from the National Association of Town Watch, and was introduced in 1984 as a way to bring communities and law enforcement together. The first ever National Night Out was enjoyed by 2.5 million neighbors in 400 communities across 23 states. According to natw.org,
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.
Congratulations to Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith and all of his staff and officers who've worked hard to make this year's National Night Out a massive success.
