The key to any good piece of art is storytelling. It doesn't matter if you're talking about books, movies, paintings....whatever. It HAS to have a good story if it is going to have any value. And, to me, that's where most video games fall short of being art. Yes, they might look beautiful. Yeah, the concept might be interesting. But, at the end of the day, they end up being just another video game. That, however, is far from the truth with the new Playstation 4 epic 'God of War'.

As someone who generally loses interest in most games rather quickly, 'God of War' sucked me in and wouldn't let go. It looks good, the gameplay is fun...but, most importantly, the story is above and beyond anything I've ever seen in a video game.

Kratos is back, but this time he's different. His character is richer. He has a son. He's on the run. He's in a new land, taking on new foes (the game has abandoned Greek mythology and is now tackling the Nordic gods and their story). There is a lot of depth and character development that is missing from most video games. I'm trying to be as vague as possible as to not let any spoilers out...but man, this game is just absolutely phenomenal from top to bottom.

From a technical standpoint, visually the game is top notch. There's virtually no lag time between cinematic elements of the story and gameplay. From the open scene, the game hooks you in a way most fail. The controls are simple but have enough depth that you can take on enemies in multiple ways depending on your style of gameplay.

Many are calling this the greatest video game of all time. While I'm not quite ready to make that leap just yet (for me, Rockstar created perfection with LA Noire, Red Dead Redemption and GTA V), but this is certainly the best game of the year so far and probably the best since 'The Last of Us' was released a few years ago.

If you're strictly into gameplay, 'God of War' will keep you entertained for hours. But, if you look for something more in your entertainment, this game reaches the level of art and the story is something that Hollywood wishes they could have created.
