Sears Set to Close Stores in Louisiana
Yesterday, retail giant Sears Holdings Inc. announced that it would be closing 72 Sears and K-Mart stores nationwide - including 2 in Louisiana. According to CNBC, the company has announced the closing of 63 stores this summer - including the Sears located in the Alexandria Mall and the K-Mart in Lake Charles. Luckily, the Sears stores in Mall St. Vincent and Pierre Bossier mall have survived this round of closings - but the company will announce an additional 9 closings in the near future.
Even though Sears has found some recent success raising their stock value by selling their Kenmore and Craftsman products online through a partnership with Amazon, the retailer has suffered slipping sales for years due to the rise in online sales and the decline in the amount of consumers shopping in malls across the country. In fact, this is the second time this year the company has had to close a huge chunk of it's stores. In January, they closed and liquidated more than 100 stores.
The liquidation sales are set to begin June 14th at the affected stores.
