Seether Tap Disturbed, Volbeat + More for 2016 Rise Above Festival
Seether are continuing to benefit others while pulling together some of the biggest names in rock as part of their annual Rise Above Festival. The event, now preparing for its fourth year, will take place at Darling's Waterfront Pavilion in Bangor, Maine on Aug. 6.
Joining the festival founders on the bill will be Disturbed, who will headline the Main Stage. They rest of the Main Stage lineup includes Volbeat, Alter Bridge and Beartooth. On the Stage 2, you'll find Killswitch Engage leading the way, with support from Hatebreed, Memphis May Fire, We Came as Romans and I Prevail.
Seether founded the Rise Above festival to bring light to suicide awareness. Frontman Shaun Morgan's brother took his own life and the tragic action inspired the band's song "Rise Above This" and eventually the founding of the festival. This year, the proceeds raised from the show will got to SAVE, Suicide Awareness Voices of Education.
"The Rise Above Fest has become the musical voice for our nation that mental health and suicide prevention are important to everyone," said Dr. Dan Reidenberg, Executive Director of SAVE. "SAVE is grateful to Seether's inspiration to make a difference in the world and to all of the bands who are helping spread the message that for those struggling with emotional pain and suicidal thoughts, you too can Rise Above This."
"Each time we've done it it's been just a little bit bigger than the one before it and we've managed to raise a little more money, so I definitely think we're on a good trajectory with it," Seether bassist Dale Stewart told Billboard. "It helps a lot that a lot of (bands) are very behind the cause. We've got a lot of friends that want to come and play and help out and get some money for this charity. I think a lot of people have been affected by suicide and mental illness. It's something people don't want to talk about, but I definitely think it's a lot closer to people's hearts than we all realize."
Disturbed's David Draiman, confirmed that, saying, "We're honored to participate in such an event, especially one that helps raise awareness and support for suicide prevention and mental illness."
Seether will likely play a limited amount of shows this year given the fact that they've set aside time to work on a new record, but skipping Rise Above was something they didn't want to do. Stewart says that they've played every year but one since founding the festival and they didn't want to break their streak.
All fans who attended the 2015 show will receive an exclusive pre-sale code for this year's event. Tickets will go on sale to the general public Feb. 12 at 12N ET. For ticketing information, click here.
