According to the team of researchers at Wallethub, the Shreveport/Bossier City, LA  metro area is one of the most obese in the entire country for 2023.

Just how fat is Shreveport-Bossier?

Wallethub.com data says that Shreveport-Bossier City is the 8th most overweight/obese in the country for 2023. The data they used was comprised of information regarding obesity, health consequences, and food and fitness. Shreveport-Bossier City leads Louisiana when it comes to obesity, but not by much. Lafayette comes in 11th and Baton Rouge, LA is 12th. The New Orleans-Metairie sneaks in at #27.

Over the years, Louisiana hasn't had a very good reputation when it comes to its relationship with obesity. I firmly believe it has everything to do with our amazing cuisine as well as our extreme rate of poverty, forcing folks to eat preservative-rich empty calories, instead of wholesome foods.

That might explain why Shreveport-Bossier City ranks second in the country when it comes to the percentage of adults with high cholesterol. Shreveport-Bossier also ranks third when it comes to the percentage of adults with low fruit and vegetable consumption rates and first when it comes to the percentage of adults with high blood pressure. I'm 48 years old and on high blood pressure medicine so I can relate. Here's the breakdown of the study. Read it and maybe take a walk?
