Runoff on Way in Shreveport City Marshal Race

The race to be City Marshall for Shreveport is headed to a runoff in April. Interim Marshall James Jefferson will face City Councilman Grayson Boucher in the runoff.

Jefferson led the field of 4 candidates with 45% of the vote. He got 5,986 votes to 5,607 votes for Boucher which was 42% of the vote.

Independent Donald "DJ" Gaut and Democrat Anthony Johnson got about 13% of the vote.

Only about 11% of voters turned out on Saturday to vote in this election.

The runoff election is on April 29. Early voting for that election is April 15-22.

In other election news, DeSoto Parish voters turned down a quarter cent sales tax to fund an animal shelter. That measure failed by a vote of 773 for and 995 against.

All of the alcohol propositions in Ruston passed.

Voters in Haughton overwhelmingly turned down a property tax millage to fund the police and fire departments for "acquiring, constructing, improving, maintaining, operating and/or supplementing public safety protection and emergency medical service facilities, vehicles and equipment, including both movable and immovable property."

398 or 70% of the voters said no to this proposal.
