Shreveport Mayor Adrian Perkins has announced a city-wide mask mandate.

It seemed a foregone conclusion over the last few weeks that we would see Shreveport follow in the footsteps of several Louisiana cities, including Baton Rouge, which have passed a mask mandate. Today, it became official.

During his 4:00 PM press conference, Mayor Adrian Perkins announced the executive order which forces Shreveporters to wear masks or face-coverings inside any Shreveport business. The executive order also forces all businesses to post signage stating that a mask must be worn in order to enter the building.

In his announcement, he also states that Shreveport Police will be enforcing the mandate. Also, businesses will receive a warning on their first violation, and will face fines following their second violation.

Public transportation is effected in this mandate as well, Perkins announced that anyone over the age of two riding on SPORTRAN will be required to wear a mask or face-covering.

Shreveport's mask mandate will officially go into effect on Wednesday, July 8th. It will last a minimum of one month, concluding (as of now) on August 8th.

The mayor's full announcement can be found below.
