Last week, we lost an absolute gem.  Aretha Franklin was an incredible singer, but she meant so much more to so many people.  I loved the way she demanded respect, but still let you made her feel like a natural woman.  She was sultry, but entertained no fools - that's the Aretha I remember!  The world is definitely a better place with her music in it.

To further remember this undeniable icon of music, equality, and fashion the African American Celebration Incorporation and Shreveport SPAR are teaming up for a celebration of her life and legacy.  On Friday, August 31st, at the Airport Park Recreation Center all people who love and miss the Queen of Soul are invited to remember her together.  KTBS reports that music, food, and more is planned to remember this incredible woman.  Organizers are asking all women that attend to wear their favorite "church hat" in honor of Aretha's fashion.
