The Smashing Pumpkins Relased ‘Gish’ 26 Year Ago
Of all the bands to come out of the 90s, The Smashing Pumpkins may be my personal favorite. The Pumpkins weren't grunge, they weren't hair metal, they weren't punk...they were all of it. They were none of it. They were a beast all unto their own.
And on this day (May 28th), way back in 1991, the Pumpkins released their debut studio album 'Gish'. Despite falling flat during it's initial release, 'Gish' was huge in the college radio world and eventually became Certified Platinum in 1995.
In fact, until the release of The Offspring album "Smash" in 1994, 'Gish' was the highest-selling independently released album of all time.
