The Voice Of Disney’s Pocahontas Is Coming To Shreveport
Shreveport's comic con, Geek'd Con, is heading back to Downtown Shreveport for another big year at the Shreveport Convention Center. This year's event will be August 18th through August 20th.
This year at Geek'd Con, you can meet a real-life Disney Princess! The voice of Pocahontas, Irene Bedard, is coming to Shreveport for Geek'd Con.
Bedard voiced the title character in the 1995 film Pocahontas, as well as its sequel, associated video games, and even a cameo appearance in Ralph Breaks the Internet.
The Pocahontas movie won numerous awards, and changed how Disney Princesses would be treated moving forward. Bedard's Pocahontas was the one of first empowered heroine to lead a Disney film, and influenced many of the Disney Princesses who came after her.
After her Disney debut, Bedard went on to work on numerous projects. Including voicing characters for Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles, Turok: Son of Stone, The Spectacular Spider-Man, and Young Justice: Invasion. She's also appeared on-screen for multiple episodes of Longmire, FBI: Most Wanted, The Mist, and Alaska Daily. She's also appeared in the 2020 miniseries The Stand, Westworld, and has been cast in the live-action Netflix adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Since its start, Geek'd Con has been one of the premiere comic con style events in the state of Louisiana. The event has generated millions of dollars in economic impact to the Shreveport and Bossier City area. While also bringing in Rock & Roll Hall of Fame members, Star Wars icons, Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame members, and horror movie legends.
Over the last 7 events, an estimated 106,000 fans have come through the Shreveport Convention Center to enjoy the festivities. Fans have walked away with one-of-a-kind items, autographs, pictures, and unmatched experiences.
The 2023 dates are going to be August 18th through 20th. Geek'd Con 2023 will follow the traditional Friday, Saturday, and Sunday schedule. Opening with a Vendor Preview Night on Friday, where the public is welcome to shop from over 100 vendor booths with unique collectibles, hand crafted items, artwork, and more. Vendors from all across the United States come to Geek'd Con every year, and offer a wide selection of items. That doesn't include the tremendous volume of local artists who attend the event every year as well.
