Tony Iommi Composes Church Music? It’s True!
Who'da thunk it? The Father Of Heavy Metal writing music for the Father Of Life? Tony Iommi, the legendary guitarist of Black Sabbath, was approached before the start of Black Sabbath's farewell tour last year by the Very Reverent Catherine Ogle from the cathedral in Iommi's hometown of Birmingham, England.
Ogle's idea was to have Iommi write a choral piece for the boys choir. Iommi said that even as they were talking, ideas were popping into his head for the composition. So, he agreed to compose the piece, and 9 months later "How Good It Is" was born.
