2 Jailed in Connection with Child Found Walking Barefoot at 2 a.m.
Yesterday morning, St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s deputies picked up a 3 year old found walking barefoot down Farmsite Road in Violet, Louisiana early yesterday morning. According to WAFB, the authorities rescued the kid after receiving reports of an unaccompanied child walking down the road barefooted at 2 a.m. Deputies reportedly searched for adults responsible for the child for hours to no avail.
It wasn't until after noon that the child's mother, 22-year-old Aaliyah Evans, would contact police. She claimed that she had been at work, and had seen a Facebook post about her wandering child when she got off. She would also tell investigators that her child was being watched by his uncle, 17-year-old Malik Evans.
Charges have not yet been filed against the mother, but she was arrested on an unrelated outstanding warrant. The 17 year old who was supposed to be watching the boy has been arrested and charged with child endangerment. The 3 year old is now in the custody of the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services, who are investigating the situation.
