Again, Construction Will Close Major I-220 Exit Ramp in Bossier City
If it seems to you like every time you get back in the habit of using the I-220 East to I-20 East exit ramp, it gets closed again, you really aren't far off the mark.
Of course, a project of this size will come with its share of inconvenience, but in the long run, it should prove invaluable to all those who live or work on the base.
However, in the meanwhile, we're about to experience those growing pains again. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has once again called for the closure of the I-220 East exit ramp to I-20 East in Bossier City.
Weather permitting, the construction of the new Barksdale Air Force Base Interchange Project will require the ramp to be closed to all motorists from this Saturday, November 13, at 6:00 am until Monday, November 15, at 5:00 am.
According to the LaDOTD, this closure includes the US 80 to I-220 eastbound ramp. The inside lane of I-220 eastbound between I-20 and US 80 will also be closed during the same time period.
You might have already noticed that the Highway Information signs are already warning motorists of the event and while it's closed, they'll have detour signage in place, as all vehicles will need to detour.
Looking at the LaDOTD website, this project was projected to be completed by the Fall of 2021, but because of some of the weather issues and the pandemic, it looks like things are running behind schedule.
Their website also provides this Safety Reminder while the construction is going on:
DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone
